ANALYSIS OF UKRAINE’S FOOD SECURITY INDICATORS UNDER MARTIAL LAW
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the key food security indicators in Ukraine under martial law and to assess the resilience of the national agri-food system. The research addresses the existential challenges posed by the full-scale invasion, including logistics disruptions, land occupation, and the destruction of production infrastructure, which affect both domestic stability and global food markets. The research methodology is based on the use of statistical methods for analyzing agricultural data, calculating the indicators of the daily energy value of the diet, and assessing the economic accessibility of food according to regulatory formulas and Engel's Law. The study compares Ukraine's food security indices with neighboring European countries (Poland, Romania, Hungary) to determine the country's strategic position. The results of the study revealed that despite a significant reduction in cattle livestock (-24.1%) and complex logistics, Ukraine maintains a high level of grain self-sufficiency (340%), which significantly exceeds the indicators of neighboring EU countries. The calculation of household indicators showed that the daily energy value (2479 kcal) and the share of animal proteins (30.6%) are at the lower limit of the norm. The food affordability indicator reached 55.8%, which is close to the critical threshold of 60%, indicating high sensitivity to inflationary shocks. The practical significance of the results lies in the justification of the priorities of the Food Security Strategy of Ukraine until 2027. The study identifies key recovery drivers, such as logistics diversification, financial support for producers, and the reduction of transportation costs by 20-25%. The conclusions emphasize that Ukraine remains a guarantor of global food stability, but requires targeted interventions to protect vulnerable social groups and restore the export potential.
